Für die nächste Routenplanung haben wir eindeutig den geteerten Straßen den Vorrang gegeben und wollten von Schotter-, Erd- oder Graspisten für die nächste Zeit nichts mehr wissen. So landeten wir auch bald auf der Autobahn „Ruta 5“, die einmal längs durch Chile führt und als die „Panamericana“ gilt.
Auf dieser sind wir zügig nach Norden gekommen und haben bei Cobquecura einen Abstecher ans Meer gemacht. Per Zufall haben wir diesen Ort gewählt und hatten mal wieder Glück mit der Wahl, denn dem Strand vorgelagert lag ein großes Felsmassiv im Pazifik, auf dem sich zahlreiche Seelöwen tummelten. Da der Fels nur etwa 20 Meter vom Strand entfernt war, konnte man die Tiere auch mit bloßem Auge gut beobachten und vor allem hören! Die ganze Nacht hindurch hätte man meinen können, eine schreiende Kuhherde befindet sich neben uns!
Mit einem langen Strandspaziergang verabschiedeten wir uns am Morgen von dem Strand und den Seelöwen und fuhren immer entlang der Küste nach Norden. Mal direkt am Meer, dann mal wieder mehr im Hinterland vorbei an großen Kiefer- und Eukalyptsplantagen, ging es durch verschiedene Fischerorte, wo wir die Gelegenheit zum Einkauf von frischen Fisch nutzten.
Doch wir wollten nicht nur die Küstenregion sehen, sondern auch die zentrale Ebene zwischen der Küstenkordillere und den Andengipfeln, welches das wichtigste Anbaugebiet des Landes ist. Quasi der „Obst- und Weingarten“ Chiles. Und tatsächlich, als wir kreuz und quer durch die Gegend fuhren, wechselten sich Obstplantagen mit Weinanbaugebieten ab und dazwischen aber auch immer wieder hässliche Wellblechhallen. Irgendwo muss das Obst und Gemüse ja verpackt werden.
Die Rebgärten sahen wir hauptsächlich auf der Ruta del Vino durch das „Valle de Colchagua“ nahe Santa Cruz und bei soviel Wein hatten wir spontan die Idee einer Winzereibesichtigung. Also hielten wir bei der nächsten Bodega an, fragten nach einer Besichtigung und bekamen netterweise, außer der Reihe, eine Führung von der Seniorchefin der Bodega „Estampa“. Sehr gut und interessant brachte sie uns die Geschichte des Hauses und die Herstellung des Weines näher und wir haben am Ende auf die Weinprobe verzichtet (da wir noch weiterfahren wollten) und uns dafür aber mehrere Flaschen mitgenommen.
Die weitere Tour führte uns wieder zum Pazifik und bei La Boca, einem kleinen chilenischen Fischer- und Ferienort verweilten wir auf einem schönen Klippenplatz über dem Meer. Herrlich.
