„STRAPAZEN IM BERG“
Von Uyuni aus sind wir über die Cordillera de Chichas in die 215 km entfernt liegende Stadt Potosí gefahren und haben auf der Strecke wieder einmal schöne, kontrastreiche Landschaftswechsel erleben dürfen. Und ganz viele Lamas, die sich bei einem Stopp dem Auto zunächst neugierig zuwenden, dann aber, sobald man die Kamera zückt, schnell ihr Hinterteil preisgeben. Da ist das Teleobjektiv gefragt…
Potosí, einst eine der reichsten Städte Amerikas, ist mit seinen 162.000 Einwohnern die höchstgelegene Großstadt der Welt (4065m) und verdankt ihre Existenz und den ehemaligen Reichtum dem Silbervorkommen des Cerro Rico de Potosí. Insgesamt wurden seit dem 16. Jahrhundert etwa 46.000 Tonnen Silber aus dem Berg geholt, doch im 18. Jahrhundert kam der Absturz Potosís, da das Silber im Berg so gut wie ausgebeutet war. Einen erneuten Aufschwung brachte der Abbau von Zinn und Zink und letzteres wird auch heute noch in den Minen des Cerro Ricos abgebaut.
Wir haben eine solche Mine besucht und zusammen mit einem ehemaligen Minero, der nun als Guide arbeitet, begann die Tour auf dem Markt, wo sich die Mineros mit allen notwendigen Utensilien für ihre Arbeit eindecken. Die wichtigsten Sachen sind dabei Kokablätter, die sie den ganzen Tag kauen, um den Hunger und Durst zu unterdrücken, Dynamit, welches jedermann hier legal kaufen kann und 96% Schnaps, der nach Arbeitsschluss pur getrunken wird.

Und dann sind wir mit Schutzkleidung, Helm und Lampe ausgestattet in eine Mine hinein gegangen, die kein Museumstollen ist, sondern in der „normal“ gearbeitet wurde.
So interessant es war, so schockierend war es auch zu sehen, unter welchen Bedingungen die Männer dort arbeiten. Beleuchtung, Notausgänge und Stahlträger haben wir nicht gesehen, dafür morsche Holzbalken zum Abstützen und Männer, die den Berg mit Hammer und Meisel bearbeiten und das Gestein mit Schubkarren nach draußen schaffen. In solch einem Fall sind wir immer schnell zur Seite gesprungen, um nicht den schnellen Lauf des Mineros zu stören. Doch das zur Seite springen war längst nicht so einfach, da die Gänge sehr klein, eng und niedrig waren.
Da wir eine kleine Gruppe mit nur vier Besuchern waren ist Daniel mit uns in Gänge hinein gegangen, in denen man wirklich manchmal nur auf allen vieren vorwärts kriechen konnte. Dann musste hin und wieder ein Loch überstiegen werden oder durch eine kleine Öffnung gekrabbelt werden, um in drunter oder drüber liegenden Gang zu gelangen. Der Berg kam uns vor wie ein Schweizer Käse und wir wunderten uns, dass er überhaupt noch bearbeitet werden darf und nicht schon längst eingestürzt ist.
Wie wir erfuhren, besteht ein Abbauverbot lediglich in den oberen 400 Metern des Berges, sonst gibt es keinerlei Regeln und Vorschriften und die insgesamt 15.000 Mineros im Alter von 14 bis 45 Jahren arbeiten an 6 Tagen die Woche unter diesen harten Bedingungen im Berg. Für bolivianische Verhältnisse verdient ein Minero mit umgerechnet 5 Euro am Tag sehr gut, doch die Arbeit und die Vergütung steht in keinem Verhältnis. Wenn man die Gefahren bedenkt (in diesem Jahr sind bereits zwei Mineros im Berg gestorben) und weiß, dass viele nicht älter als 45 Jahre alt werden, dann ist ihr Lohn diese Strapazen nicht wert. Das Durchschnittsgehalt in Bolivien, wo 60% der Bevölkerung keinen geregelten Job haben, beträgt ca. 50 Euro im Monat.
Nach diesen vielen Eindrücken waren wir froh, nach 2 Stunden das Tageslicht wieder zu sehen und fuhren schweigend in die Stadt zurück. Dort packten wir unsere Sachen und starteten noch am Nachmittag in Richtung Sucre.
Nach etwa 2 Stunden Fahrt hatten wir am frühen Abend Sucre erreicht und befanden uns seit langen einmal wieder unter der 3000 Meter-Höhen-Marke, auf 2790 m. Die nominelle Hauptstadt Boliviens wurde 1538 gegründet und hat uns wegen der gut erhaltenen kolonialen Bausubstanz sehr gut gefallen. Ehrlich gesagt haben wir nicht sämtliche historische Gebäude abgeklappert, sondern sind durch die Stadt geschlendert, haben uns in ein Café gesetzt, Leute auf dem Plaza beobachtet (!) und die nette Atmosphäre der „weißen“ Stadt genossen.
Lustig war eine Taxifahrt zurück zu unserem Hostal, bei der wir entdecken durften, dass der Fahrer lediglich das Lenkrad vor sich hatte und Christoph, der auf dem Beifahrersitz saß, auf sämtliche Armaturen vor sich blicken konnte. Japanisches Billig-Exportprodukt!!!
