“SCHIFF AUF HOHER SEE….”
Fünf Tage nur Wasser um uns herum! Und als kleiner Punkt in diesem riesigen Weltmeer die „Grande Francia“ mit uns darauf! Wahnsinn.
So gesehen sind diese fünf Tage fast gar nichts im Vergleich zu unserer inzwischen 35 Tage (!) andauernden Schiffsreise. Und wir sind noch nicht am Ende…, d.h. angekommen!
Aber auch ohne Landgänge ging die Zeit herum und eine wirklich schöne Abwechslung hat uns die Mannschaft kurz vor der Überquerung des Äquators geboten. Ob uns eine Äquatortaufe durch Neptun bevorstehen sollte?
Um 19 Uhr waren wir auf Deck zum Barbecue eingeladen und zusammen mit der Crew saßen wir in schönster Abendstimmung bei untergehender Sonne um selbst gezimmerte Tische herum, die sogar mit Tischdecken dekoriert waren (von wegen „Männerhaushalt“!).
In einem alten, als Grill umfunktionierten Ölfass wurde ordentlich mit Holz eingeheizt und die Mengen an Steaks und Hähnchen konnten gut darauf gegrillt werden. Dazu hat der Koch in regelmäßigen Abständen große Portionen Pommes und Pasta gebracht und zusammen mit einem Bierchen oder leckeren Caipirinha wurde die Stimmung immer ausgelassener. Plötzlich aber, kurz vor der Überquerung der imaginären Linie, packte die Crew ihre Stühle und sieben Sachen und war in fünf Minuten von Deck verschwunden. Was war das denn? Auf einmal saßen nur wir Passagiere im fast Dunkeln um den Tisch herum und einzig der Kapitän gesellte sich noch zu uns. Okay, also haben wir die Taufe umgedreht und Monika, Brigitte und Marianne sind mit ihren Schminkutensilien auf den Kapitän los und haben ihm das Gesicht bemalt! Der Arme wusste gar nicht, wie ihm geschah…
Soviel zu unserer Äquatortaufe!!!
Abwechslung war auch an einem der nächsten Tage geboten, als wir den Maschinenraum besichtigen konnten. Ausgestattet mit „Micky Mäusen“ auf den Ohren ging es in den „Keller“, um uns dort den über drei Decks gelegenen Maschinenraum erklären zu lassen.
Der 8-Zylinder Reihenmotor, der von der schwedischen Firma Sulzer stammt, hat eine Leistung von 18.000 kW und dreht 140 U/min. Er hat einen Hubraum von 3000 Litern (3.000.000ccm) und verbraucht 73 Tonnen (!) Schweröl in 24 Stunden, wobei er ständig mit gleicher Drehzahl läuft. Der Vorschub wird allein durch die Stellung der Blätter an der 5 Meter hohen Schiffsschraube reguliert.
Und diese riesigen Ausmaße werden gebraucht, damit die 214 Meter lange, 54 Meter hohe und 36 Meter breite und 56.700 BRT schwere „Grande Francia“ auf knapp 20 Knoten angetrieben werden kann!
Die übrige Zeit verbrachten (und verbringen) wir mit Lesen, Vokabel lernen, Sport, Essen,… und dem Beobachten von Tieren. Das sind an der Zahl zwar nicht so viele, doch neben Walen, Delfinen und fliegenden Fischen im Wasser, haben wir sogar auch zwei Grillen und einen Vogel an Bord.
