URUGUAY- DIE OSTKÜSTE UND MONTEVIDEO
Das Landschaftsbild änderte sich natürlich nicht mit Überschreiten der Grenze und so fuhren wir weiterhin entlang des langen Sandstrandes, quasi zu unserer Linken und verschiedener Lagunen im Landesinneren zu unserer Rechten. Auch in diesem Gebiet war so gut wie nichts los auf der Straße und wir genossen es in dieser ruhigen, angenehmen Atmosphäre unterwegs zu sein und einen Abstecher in das Fischerörtchen Punta del Diabolo zu unternehmen, wo laut Reiseführer zur Hochsaison der Bär los sein soll.
Wir aber konnten fast alleine auf den vom Wasser glatt geschliffenen Felsen herumklettern und das Artigas-Monument (José Artigas war einer der bedeutenden Freiheitskämpfer Lateinamerikas) betrachten. Besonders schön ist es nicht und sieht eher aus wie ein Mann in einer Duschkabine!
In dieser einsamen Gegend, wo alle Ferienhäuser noch unbewohnt sind, war es für uns nicht schwer, einen Platz zum wild campen zu finden und das Meeresrauschen im Hintergrund ist schon fast Pflicht… Und natürlich der morgendliche Strandspaziergang! Da die Orte an der Küste uns sehr gut gefallen haben, haben wir uns für einen weiteren Abstecher, diesmal nach La Paloma, entschieden. Auch hier war alles sehr ruhig und gelassen und außer den Arbeitern beim Leuchtturm und dem Supermarktpersonal haben wir nicht allzu viele Menschen zu Gesicht bekommen. Ach halt, den Tankwart noch, der uns zugeredet hat, auf jeden Fall zur Lagune „Lagoa de Rocha“ zu fahren, da es dort wunderschön sei. Und das war es auch, wie wir später feststellen durften. Da diese flache Süß- und Brackwasserlagune einen Zugang zum Atlantik hatte und die Piste dort geendet hat, war auch für uns „Ende“ und wir bauten das Lager für die Nacht auf. In unserer Nachbarschaft standen Flamingo´s im Wasser und auch zahlreiche andere Wasservögel ließen sich zum Glück durch uns nicht stören. Ebenfalls zum Glück und zum Schutz dieses fisch- und vogelreichen Biotopes wurde auf einen Brückenbau verzichtet und der Hauptverkehrsweg führt im Landesinneren weit entfernt von den Lagunen vorbei.
An der zweiten Lagune dann hat uns das Vorhandensein eines Floßes überrascht und gefreut, da wir uns so einen riesigen Umweg sparen konnten. Mit einem kleinen Boot wurde ein Floß hin und hergezogen, auf welchem gerade so der „G“ Platz gefunden hat. Ob die drei Männer das Ganze als Hobby betreiben oder vom Staat unterstützt werden, wissen wir nicht, jedenfalls wollten die keine Pesos für den Transfer haben und auch das Trinkgeld haben wir fast auf´s Floß legen müssen. Die letzte Lagune die wir passierten, lag mehr im Hinterland und so gab es keine weiteren Hindernisse zu bewältigen und wir kamen zügig in Punta del Este an, einem Nobelbadeort von Uruguay. Quasi Sylt in groß! Staunend fuhren wir durch die Straßen, aber Lust zum Aussteigen und Flanieren kam bei uns nicht auf. Das hoben wir uns für den nächsten Tag in Montevideo auf, denn von dem Uruguay-Sylt bis zur Hauptstadt war es nicht mehr weit und wir waren am frühen Nachmittag im Vorort von Montevideo angekommen.
In diesem Vorort von Montevideo sollte laut Reiseführer ein Campingplatz sein , doch nach mehrmaligen Nachfragen konnte uns nur ein netter Typ einen alten Platz nennen. Na, mal sehen was das war: „Semi-Camping Alfonso“. Was bitte schön ist denn Semi-Camping?! Entweder ganz oder gar nicht, aber halbes Campen? Die Frage war bald beantwortet und es war ein in die Jahre gekommener Platz, der unter anderem auch ein Ausflugsplatz für´s Asado (Grillen) war. Noch mehr in die Jahre gekommen war der Besitzer des Platzes, Alfonso, der uns mit seinen bestimmt neunzig Jahren auf wackeligen Beinen unkrautzupfend mit einem impulsiven Wortschwall empfing. Dass wir gar nichts verstanden haben, hat ihn wenig interessiert und so war es für ihn klare Sache, dass wir für die eine Nacht seine (einzigen) Gäste sein würden, obwohl wir noch am Überlegen waren, ob wir das tun sollten. Ein halber Campingplatz ohne Dusche und fließend Wasser? Als er uns schließlich mit zwei Bonbons köderte und uns einen winzig kleinen Kessel mit Wasser warm machen wollte, sind wir (wohl mehr aus Mitleid) geblieben und haben unsere Open Air-Dusche am „G“ genutzt und uns später auf den Weg nach etwas Essbarem gemacht. Nein, nicht beim Platzwart!
Der hat uns morgens einen alten Eimer mit Wasser zum Waschen vor den „G“ gestellt und sich sehr wortreich von uns verabschiedet. Wir mussten ihn irgendwann unterbrechen und einfach losfahren, sonst ständen wir heute noch mit zwei Fragezeichen über dem Kopf vor ihm. Gut, dass wir uns lösen konnten, denn so hatten wir viel Zeit für Montevideo, dem Zentrum und der Hauptstadt Uruguays. Die Stadt, in welcher ca. 1,6Millionen Menschen leben, immerhin etwa jeder zweite Uruguayer, hat den üblichen Schachbrettgrundriß lateinamerikanischer Städte und es ist daher leicht, sich schnell zurecht zu finden. Wir haben zunächst einen Spaziergang durch die Altstadt und dann auch durch die Neustadt unternommen und waren besonders angetan von dem „Mercado del Puerto“. Diese Markthalle erinnert wegen der Stahlkonstruktion eher an einen Bahnhof, ist aber ein überdimensionales Restaurant, wo auf meterlangen Grills alle möglichen Leckereien über der Glut schmoren. Ob Rinderstücke, Würste, Hühnchen oder auch mal Paprika- da ist für jeden etwas dabei!
Für jeden Autoliebhaber, besonders wenn er Oldtimer mag, ist Uruguay ebenfalls ein Paradies. Was bei uns im Museum steht oder zu Oldtimer-Rallys aus der Garage herausgeholt wird, fährt hier im normalen Alltagsverkehr herum und rostet noch nicht einmal (fast nicht!) vor sich hin!
Am Hafen haben wir schließlich herausgefunden, dass die Fähre von Montevideo nach Buenos Aires, unserem nächsten Ziel, um ein mehrfaches teurer gewesen wäre als von Colonial del Sacramento und so war es für uns eine klare Sache, die 160 Km westlicher Richtung von Montevideo zu fahren und von dort die günstigere Fähre zu nehmen. Für die Abendfähre hat es nicht mehr gereicht, aber die 5.30 Uhr-Fähre am Morgen hat uns in drei Stunden von Uruguay nach Argentinien gebracht.
