EINMAL MEERSCHWEINCHEN MIT POMMES, BITTE!
Der Grenzübergang nach Ecuador verlief sehr gut und schnell und die Beamten dort waren sogar so nett, uns mit einer ausgiebigen Touristenmappe auszustatten. Das war mal etwas Neues und ließ Gutes erhoffen. Gut, bzw. sehr schön war das Landschaftsbild durch das wir fuhren. Die Bergwelt wurde steiler, als es noch kurz vor der Grenze in Peru der Fall war, die Gegend wurde noch grüner, mit interessanten Pflanzen und Gewächsen und die Leute waren nett und freundlich. Wegangaben schienen hier einmal korrekt zu sein und auch die Angabe der Fahrtdauer stimmte ungefähr. Das war längst nicht in allen bisher bereisten Ländern der Fall!
Die Fahrtdauer verlängerten wir uns selbst gerne etwas, als wir überraschenderweise in einer der vielen Kurven auf einen blauen Landy mit österreichischen Kennzeichen stießen. So klein ist die Welt- könnte man da fast sagen und wir haben uns riesig gefreut, Hans, Doris und Marcelo wieder zu sehen, mit denen wir auf Valdez in Argentinien ganz unvergessliche Wal-Erlebnisse haben teilen dürfen. Klar, dass wir eine Weile geredet und Reiseerfahrungen ausgetauscht haben und sich dann unsere Wege leider wieder in verschiedene Richtungen trennten.
Bei uns ging es weiter in flachere Gefilde bis nach Machala, der Bananenhauptstadt Ecuadors! Von hier aus werden „Del Monte & Co“ verschifft und bereits auf dem Weg in die Hafenstadt gab es rechts und links der Straße nur noch Bananenplantagen. Die Küstengegend selbst hat noch einige intakte Mangrovensümpfe zu verzeichnen und die vorgelagerten Inseln sind ein Paradies für Vögel und Meeresgetier.
Auch auf der weiteren Fahrt in Richtung Norden überwogen die Bananenplantagen und während wir Bananen gut kennen, gab es bei anderen Früchten eher ein Ratespiel. Probiert haben wir so einiges, was am Straßenrand zum Verkauf angeboten wurde. Und während so manches sehr lecker und gut geschmeckt hat, hat längst nicht alles unserem Geschmack entsprochen und wurde, wenn auch nicht gerade vor den Augen des Verkäufers, wieder ausgespuckt.
Mutig und neugierig waren wir in einem der Andendörfer, die wir im Landesinneren durchfuhren, als wir am Wegesrand „Meerschweinchen-Grills“ sahen. Wenn nicht jetzt, wann dann?! Das zumindest war unsere Devise und so saßen wir im dicksten Regen unter dem Dach beim Meerschweinchengrillbesitzer auf der Bank und haben solch ein kleines Tier mit Kartoffeln und Bohnen verzehrt. Nicht, dass uns der Mut verlassen hätte, teilten wir uns zu dritt eines und ganz im Gegenteil, war es sehr schmackhaft und mit den Beilagen auch sehr sättigend.
Durch die „Allee der Vulkane“ ging es weiter in Richtung Quito, der Hauptstadt Ecuadors. Gut ein Dutzend, teils noch aktive Vulkane soll es hier geben und wir können uns da leider nur auf die Angaben des Reiseführers berufen. Gesehen haben wir nämlich wegen einer dicken Wolken- und Regendecke gar nichts. So ist das eben mit der Regenzeit in Ecuador.
Mit ein paar Unterbrechungen und Stopps kamen wir bald in Quito an, fanden recht schnell ein schönes Hostal für uns, einen bewachten Parkplatz für den „G“ und genossen die Stadt. Am ersten Abend kam es zu einem tollen Ereignis: ein Treffen mit Andrea und Jörg, die die Panamericana mit dem Fahrrad meistern, klappte und wir saßen mit vielen Erzählungen in der Kneipe zusammen. Seit Alaska verfolgen wir die beiden mehr oder weniger regelmäßig auf ihrer Homepage (Links) und irgendwann musste man sich ja über den Weg fahren!
Zusammen mit Kai erkundeten wir die schöne Altstadt, wie auch die Neustadt und feierten schließlich Abschied von und mit ihm in einem kolumbianischen Steakhaus- wenn das nicht ein gutes Omen für unsere weitere Fahrt sein sollte!
Eigentlich wollten wir Kai so wie es sich gehört am Morgen zum Flughafen bringen, doch da der Parkplatz um 5.30 Uhr noch nicht geöffnet hatte, musste er sich vorsichtshalber ein Taxi zum Flughafen nehmen. Wir dagegen haben so lange geklingelt und geklopft, bis uns schließlich geöffnet wurde und wir nachdüsen konnten. Für einen Abschiedskaffee und Blick auf den Cotopaxi (hat er sich doch noch gezeigt!) hat es noch gereicht und dann ging es für den „Kleinen“ in die Luft. Schön war es mit dir, Koisl!

Hallo Ihr Lieben,
ich muß ich eine traurige Mitteilung machen: In der Mittagspause habe ich mal wieder seit langem Eure Seiten besucht und bin immer noch dran zu lesen und zu staunen, in der Zwischenzeit kam mein Chef vorbei, hat mich erwischt und nun lesen mehrere auf “Firmenkosten”, wer soll das bezahlen…? Aber ist allzu leicht, die Zeit beim Stöbern zu vergessen. Dem ist noch nicht genug, mein Bürokollege ist Vegetarier, als ich ihm gerade die leckeren Meerschweinchen und die fantastische Grilleinrichtung gezeigt habe, war es ganz vorbei mit seiner Sympathie für seinen Fleischessenden Jäger Kollegen.
Das könnt Ihr nur wieder gut machen, wenn Ihr doch irgend wann das Dach des Blockhauses am Quebeck Creek repariert. Ich habe die Koordinaten in Googl Earth noch nicht rausfinden können, aber das werden wir schon noch hinkriegen…. Sonnige Grüße. Ingo B.

Wie ich hörte, gibt es dort eine Nagetierplage, u.a. auch Meerschweinchen!!! Dann versteht man das auch mit dem “Grill”
Mittlerweile seid ihr wohl verschifft, auf dem Weg nach Nordamerika, wurde mir von enger Verwandtschaft gesteckt.

Ich finde Pommes zu trocken als Beilage für die Schweinchen. Interessant ist Spargel, oder gefüllte Paprika mit Meerschweinchenfleisch. Kohlrouladen werd’ ich demnächst mal testen. Schade nur, das die Tiere hier im Zoogeschäft relativ teuer sind und die Verkäufer schauen mich mittlerweile etwas misstrauisch an.
